Holistic Approach: We believe in a holistic approach to eliminating poverty. With an emphasis on social services, critical consciousness raising and self-advocacy we help women and men to overcome language and employment barriers, addiction and disease. We seek to understand and affect the root causes of homelessness and poverty, including racism and economic inequity.
The Right to Organize: We believe that systemic change should be led by people most affected by the issues they identify. NC builds community leadership skills among participants in NC social service programs to encourage civic participation with others. Active campaigns create self-advocacy opportunities and challenge top-down decision making.
Collective Capacity-Building: We believe in combining resources through coalition building and collaboration to build-up the collective capacity of D.C. social change efforts. We strive to engage participants with the larger D.C. network; collaboration with national community organizers, educators, and service providers creates mutual support, mentorship, guidance, and strategy for bottom-up change.
