Neighbors' Consejo is fully certified by the D.C. Department of Health as a substance abuse treatment facility. We are the only intensive, all-day program in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area that specializes in homeless Latinos with co-occurring mental illness and chronic substance abuse problems.

Neighbors' Consejo understands cultural competency; and we recognize of our clients common cultural values, such as family, community, personal responsibility, and moral improvement, and emphasize the importance of a strong support network during initial recovery.

If you have questions about substance abuse or would like personal help for yourself or a family member, please call or visit our facilities. Our team of experts is prepared to meet your needs.

Invitation to Our Program

We welcome anyone who is interested in receiving help.  Once you are accepted into our program, you undergo a twelve-step recovery program that consists of 50 hours of individual and group intervention sessions per week for three months. A licensed mental health counselor and certified addiction counselor provide daily therapy and educational workshops to clients in an intensive, outpatient environment.

Daily activities include ESL and literacy courses, computer training, and recreational events. Individual and group-counseling interventions focus on addiction therapy, recovery, and educational workshops.

In addition, a bilingual psychiatrist from the Department of Mental Health is available on a weekly basis to conduct full psychiatric evaluations.
